Open Their Eyes
“The greatest thing a teacher has ever done to me was open my eyes and change how I see the world. It's honestly a very life changing perspective that is strong enough to change your character and a new found appreciation for things.” - Jared
No matter how young or old our students come to us they come with a preconceived picture of the world and how it works, at least for them. They have spent their entire life taking in everything they see and building up their own instruction manual for how it is supposed to be.
On top of all of that they come with whatever happened yesterday, on the way to school, what’s going on at home and possibly without the nourishment, encouragement and love needed to be able to start the day, ready to learn.
Despite all of that programming, we are able to bring them into attention and show them a whole new day, new world, new opportunity and help them add a few more lines to the way they see things.
What an impossible task and yet we do it every day. We get to do that for them, with them and in spite of everything that is pulling them in so many directions.
It is pretty amazing.
We also get to open their eyes to the most important thing that they will ever know. As the title and subject of O.G. Mandino’s book says, they understand that they each are the Greatest Miracle in the World. They already possess so much and can do so much if they believe they can do it and are willing to put the work in.
We get to open their eyes and change how they see the world and themselves in it. So cool!
Are you ready to do that today? Let’s go!
