Help Me to See the Cool

I wish I could take this class - Every Parent

Of course they do. It is a cool class with a great teacher, you. If only their child would be as enthusiastic! They don’t know how much work goes into it and how much effort you exert to make it relevant to them. Their parents see it. Maybe because they had a similar inspiring teacher, or they never had a cool of a teacher as you, growing up.  

This is a common scene at back-to-school nights everywhere. Maybe there is a little bit of a show going on for the parents’ sake, but they understand the value of the class you are presenting. They finally know what it is like to be a lifelong learner. They know they wasted time when they were kids just like all of us.  

Perhaps they wish they could trade some of their years to be able to do cool things in school. It is hard to realize in the moment just how lucky we are to be learning as our only real job, as kids (at least for most kids).  

Hopefully we can help our students see the joy we bring each day, but even if they can’t recognize it since they are walking hormones at this stage, we know that we are bringing it every day for their benefit.  

That’s a great place to be. If you can make any of your classes the class that folks want to be in, then you know you are doing something right.  

Most importantly, make sure it is the class you want to be in.  😉
