Help Me to Get Back Up
“Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time we fall.” — Confucius
A common theme when talking to students about how their teachers have helped them is how that teacher helped them overcome some sort of difficulty or failure in learning.
It is so common, likely due to the fact that students are constantly learning new things, and we never want them to give up.
The best situations are those where the teacher is giving them more opportunities to try and fail and fail again. It is not so much that we want to “catch them” in the act of not knowing something or that we want to keep them from succeeding but rather we want them to strengthen the muscle that recovers and learns from failure.
If we help them build that skill in the safe place of our classroom, then they will more likely be able to recover well in places that are not as safe.
It is a great gift to give someone. The confidence to get back up again no matter what is a skill we all likely could use some help with.
Give your students an opportunity to really stretch themselves today. Help them fail and grow.
