Help Me Find My Voice

My teacher gave me honest individual heartfelt feedback and inquiry into the motivations behind my work, followed by advice that passion is half the battle and the rest will follow just a bit easier if I focus on finding that. - George

When reading any good writer, you get a sense of who they are, what they believe in, and how they see the world. It is a great opportunity to learn about how they think, how they solve problems, and how you might be able to steal a few lessons from them.  

We often have to do this work by ourselves, as we cannot ask the author how they feel, how they understand things, or what they would do in a situation. We don’t have access to them.  

With our students, we have all of the access, and they need all of the help they can get as they are likely not great writers…yet.  

So let’s ask them what they were thinking, let’s give them that feedback, and let’s keep prodding for more and better. That is a lot of work but so worth it, as the alternative is far more work.  

As we hand more and more of our thinking  to the robots (AI) we must be careful not to outsource our thinking, our voice or their thinking and their voice.  

Bring them into the conversation and keep it going. We are all full of ideas and passion, and there is no reason to hand those off to anyone.  

It is a beautiful thing we have going where those further down the road lead the new ones down the path.  All that experience to share and all of that curiosity to be sifted and sought out.  

It is a wonderful thing; this humanity of ours. Let’s be sure we stay curious in each other and keep pushing each other to be louder than the machines.
