Help Me Believe

We hear so many times how teachers have given their students confidence by believing in them and encouraging them to take on more challenges. We hear it so much that we almost take it for granted.  

Almost.  

It sounds cliche. It is the kind of stuff you see on coffee mugs and thank you cards. It is so often said for a reason: because it is the most basic thing we do as teachers. We do believe that our students can learn all we can show them, and we want them to do their best.  

Of course, facts, numbers, reading, and writing are the fundamentals, but none of that happens without first feeling safe and loved. Once they know you care, they will walk through a wall for you or at least through a series of fractions.  

Progress is not perfect, and our students sure prove that. We prove it as well, but we know the secret to it all. 

The secret is to always seek greater heights and believe you will get there with the right attitude, work ethic, and support. The formula is not hard, but the execution is.  

That is why it is so important for us to share the plan with the students, encourage them to follow it and believe that they will.
