Always the Student
You are always a student, never a master. You have to keep moving forward. - Conrad Hall
As much as we want to think we can do or learn no more, we are still in progress. No matter how many awards or prizes or letters of gratitude we get, we are likely still very far from the finished product.
It is easy to remind the 13-year-old that they have a long way to go, but we must see that in ourselves as well.
Certain situations come up again and again, and we know how to handle them, but we don’t always get the same kids with the same problems. That means we also get a never-ending variety of personalities to get to know.
That might sound exhausting, but it might also be just wonderful. The students make everything we do worth it and they always make it interesting.
Today’s message is more than just making us feel all warm and fuzzy. You might need the pick-me-up, but there are students that likely need that shot of confidence from you.
Let them know it is ok to try and fail and try again. Let them know they are not a finished product yet and they have time still to figure it all out.
Perhaps you can help them see how you are constantly learning and evolving, and they can follow your example. It might be messy, but we’re all just moving forward, together.
